There's nothing quite like lighting a beautifully scented candle and letting it fill your home with fragrance. But are you getting the most out of every burn? With a little care, your Morie Candles can last significantly longer — and perform better every time.
1. Always Trim Your Wick
Before every single burn, trim your wick to about 5mm. A long wick creates a larger, hotter flame that burns through wax too quickly and can cause soot. A small trim makes a big difference.
2. Let the Wax Pool Reach the Edges on the First Burn
This is the most important rule of candle care. On your very first burn, let the candle stay lit until the entire top layer of wax has melted to the edges of the jar — this usually takes 2–3 hours. Skipping this step causes "tunnelling", where the candle burns straight down the middle and wastes all the wax on the sides.
3. Don't Burn for Too Long at Once
Limit each burn to 4 hours maximum. Burning longer than this overheats the wax and can affect the fragrance throw. Let the candle cool completely before relighting.
4. Keep It Away from Drafts
Drafts from open windows, fans, or air conditioning cause uneven burning and flickering flames. Find a still spot for your candle to burn evenly and safely.
5. Store Candles Away from Sunlight
UV light and heat can fade the colour and weaken the scent of your candle over time. Store them in a cool, dark place when not in use — a drawer or cupboard works perfectly.
6. Use a Candle Snuffer
Blowing out a candle can send hot wax splattering and push the wick off-centre. A snuffer extinguishes the flame cleanly and keeps everything tidy.
7. Stop Burning When 1cm of Wax Remains
Once you reach the last centimetre of wax, it's time to retire the candle. Burning below this point can overheat the jar and become a safety hazard.
